18ct Victorian double snake ring set with ruby and diamond
A rather wonderful mellow 18ct yellow gold entwined double-headed snake ring set with an old cut diamond and a glowing old cut synthetic ruby.
The twin serpents symbolised the relationship between good and evil, and also symbolises eternity and our transformations as we evolve by shedding our “skins”.The triple split shoulder incorporates the snake's tails.
The double band merges at the back of the ring.
A relatively small ring that would make the ultimate “ pinky “ ring.
It would be possible to size up to a larger size.
Condition is good, commensurate with age.
Metal: Tests 18ct yellow gold.
Stones: Old cut diamond 3.4m diameter, estimated in the setting.
Old cut synthetic ruby, 3.85mm diameter, estimated in the setting.
Synthetic rubies were first invented in 1888 and were considered as valuable as rubies at the time. They are still considered desirable as the process was very different then and novel.
Dimensions of 2 headed snakehead - top of ring : 13.1 mm x 10.1mm.
Width of band : 7.27 mm to 4.10 mm.
Total weight : 4.7 gm. (very good for the size)
Size AUD F or US 3 can be sized included in the price depending on how much gold is added.
