Early Silver and Gold Plated Posy Ring C1690
This well-loved, 22 ct fused gold plate,silver-based posy ring circa1690 has been inscribed in Italic script with the motto” Continu in love “.
Posy rings derived their name from the ancient French term for a poem referencing to the motto or inscription on the inside.
They were the popular love token or betrothal ring of the 16th Century onwards, the forerunner of the modern wedding ring. This incredible piece was discovered during excavation with a metal detector in Hertfordshire, England.
The expected signs of wear, enhance the patina of antiquity.
Metal: 22ct fused gold plate on a silver base.
D shaped/ half round bandwidth 5.5mm.

It looks like this ring has been sized at some point - hence the obvious silver solder mark. It could be made smaller but that would be a shame :)
