Victorian 18ct Gold and Hairwork mourning brooch.
A wonderful example of Victorian hair work mourning jewellery.
An ornately decorated 18ct gold oval frame surrounds a glass front locket holding a particularly finely worked hair plume memento in the form of an urn filled floral display on a plinth. In this most unusual piece, the hair has been arranged and secured to a backing material and then cut into the shapes to make up the feature. The background is hand painted with extra scrolls and leaves.
The back has a glass panel suitable for holding a photograph. Circa 1860.
Condition good, small dents on back of gold mount.
