Victorian Paste and Silver open backed Riviere
A glorious necklace epitomising the classic Riviere style popularised in the Georgian period.
This later example has the “ endless” line of matched aquamarine /blue topaz paste gems mounted in a pretty crimped claw setting and strung together by a double-linked chain.
Unlike the original Georgian necklets, this Riviere is open backed which enhances the sparkle of the paste.
A silver S hook clasp has been added to join the necklace's ends with a large link riding on a fine belcher like a chain.
The addition of a silver chain or the option of a fine velvet ribbon gives an extra length so that the piece can be worn as a flat necklace as well as a choker style which was the original way.
The condition is very good.
