A rare pair of Georgian star burst cut steel brooches.

Cut steel is a highly collectible genre but little understood.

Fashioned out of the steel metal from discarded horse shoes, the facet cut “stones” are individually polished on a wheel and sparkle like old cut diamonds in the flickering candle light.

These delicate little pieces are then riveted to the pierced copper alloy base plate by hand to create the pieces.

The finer the work the earlier the piece.  

 The hinges, pins and catches are all in sound working order.

A very unique addition to a jewellery collection. A little piece of history.
