Early Victorian Pinchbeck and Amethyst Paste Earrings
One for the sophisticated collector, exquisite and deceptively plain, Pinchbeck earrings.
An alchemists amalgamation of copper and a dash of zinc creates this collectable metal.
The facet cut rectangular amethyst glass or “ paste” is closed covered at the back to intensify the colour. Circa 1840
The earrings are attached with the original shepherd hooks for a feminine swing and dangle.
Metal: Pinchbeck, 90% Copper 10% nickel. A collectable metal as this is no longer produced and the recipe has been lost.
Stone: Facet cut Purple / Mauve glass foil backed.
Weight: 1.1 gm each earring.
Dimensions: Top of hook to bottom of paste 1.6cm. Width of paste .75cm Height : 1cm
