Victorian Japanese insect cufflinks

A unique pair of boxed hand made and signed lozenge-shaped insect cufflinks.

The surface is bone and the legs and antennae are carefully etched into the surface.

The insect's bodies are a natural material carved and inlaid, I suspect amber.

This pair is from the Meiji era using the Shibayama technique.

Origin Japan.

Signed by the artist. circa 1890

These would make a great wedding gift.
