Buckle rings became very popular in the Victorian era with Queen Victoria said to own many buckle themed and inspired pieces of jewellery.
They represent a strong bond between two people involving love, loyalty and fidelity so were often given as signs of affection between friends and pledges of fidelity between lovers.
The floral embossing reinforces the sentiment and was a favoured motif during the Victorian and Edwardian times.
