An outstanding Antique locket from the Aesthetic Movement within the Victorian period.

The style was influenced by the art of Japan and a move against the more traditional floral and scroll decorations and engravings.

The large oval  hand pieced locket features a heron or ‘Shirasagi  “ wading through the bamboo.

The white heron was a symbol of of good luck and versatility as it inhabits 3 elements, air, earth and water.

The plain back has partial Hallmarks for Birmingham, unfortunately the date stamp has rubbed away.

The maker is stamped EU.

The interior is fitted with 2 silver rimmed photo/picture frames and perspex covers.

Each rim has a visible lion stamp for silver. This piece has been paired with a Victorian Silver collar necklace comprised of large open split belcher links mounted with silver balls.

The 43cm length has an additional 4 cm drop attached with a spring clasp meaning the collar can be lengthen to 47.5 cm.

Both pieces are in excellent condition with all clasps and hinges in sound working order.
