Early Victorian 15ct and elephant hair Fede Ring
This unusual ring is called a 'Fede' ring The name is taken from the Italian word Fede and represents trust.
Gifted as a betrothal ring or a token of affection. Two hands are clasped and the attached elephant hair band is “wrapped” in gold.
Possibly to symbolise love that continued beyond mortal life.
Circa 1840.
Metal: Unmarked but tests for 15ct yellow gold.
Black elephant hair decoration. Hand clasp at top :1.5cm x 0.4cm
