Georgian original gold tone chain with original clasp

A really good, heavy example of a Georgian embossed chain with the zig zag design and matching barrel clasp.

Some people may call this a pinchbeck chain, named after the inventor of pinchbeck Christopher Pinchbeck who invented this alloy of metal to imitate 18ct gold that was the standard of the time.

I'm going to call this metal goldtone but it's certainly Georgian and dates from around 1800 so anyone looking for a more affordable piece of Georgian jewellery will love this one.

The matching barrel clasp is a bonus and the original length of this makes it special. These were often cut down to create 2 chains at a length of 47.5cm but with only one original clasp a substitute was often added on the second chain.

This one can be worn doubled for a shorter length if desired.

Metal: Gold tone “pinchbeck”

Length: 95cm

Weight: 43.4grms
