Victorian 9ct Longuard
A wonderful example of an antique long guard necklace with its original dog clip clasp.
The length allowed for a pocket watch to be attached and then tucked into a waistband.
Sometimes referred to as a muff chain as they were also designed to be long enough to thread through a muff or a woollen hand warmer.
The small “, flattened “ belcher links make this a robust chain to hang a substantial locket or pendant from.
The necklace is also a classic, stand-alone accessory that can be doubled.
The condition is very good commensurate with age. Circa 1900.
