The perimeter is decorated with a rope twist border. Front and back then have a decorative band surrounding the actual compass.

One side has a stylised feather engraving, the other side has a geometric, triangular design.

The markings of the compass points are clearly legible and the glass cover is sound with a few minimal surface markings commensurate with age.

The dial is intact and in working order.

Hallmarked for Birmingham 1888.
