Early Victorian cut steel flower brooch
A stylish and pretty Victorian open work cut steel brooch.
Fashioned out of the steel metal from discarded horse shoes, the facet cut “ stones” sparkle like old cut diamonds in the flickering candle light.
They are hand faceted using a wheel, then polished with fine emery and finsihed with a special paste.
The base plate is hand cut and pierced to allow the finely faceted steel to be riveted on.
The hinge, pin and catch are all in sound working order. A little loose but very secure when attached to fabric.
An interesting addition to a jewellery collection.
