Antique French Silver Neillo Chain
This stylish and decorative niello chain is comprised of engraved and filled silver metalwork links alternating with twisted open links of rose gold vermeil.
The flat vermeil link adjacent to the clasp is stamped 800 for Continental Silver purity and Depose which is the mark of a patent or right to manufacture jeweller in France.
A wonderful piece for the discerning collector.
The condition is excellent commensurate with age. (enamel complete - no loss)
Could be rubbed up with a silver cloth but it is rather wonderful as is with the patina and bloom of antiquity.
Circa 1870.
Metal: Stamped Depose and 800 for French Silver with rose gold vermeil links.
Length: 44cm end to end.
Total weight: 25.6 gm
Note: Vermeil is a type of jewellery consisting of a base of sterling silver that is coated with a layer of gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold layer must be at least 2.5 microns thick and made of 10k gold or higher. It is a more durable and higher-quality option than gold plating due to the thicker gold layer.
