Antique Hallmarked Sterling Silver Kate Greenaway style Locket
This rare and pristine locket is a charming example of Victorian jewellery.
The front raised central panel is engraved with a scene similar to those from the illustrations of children’s author Kate Greenaway and depicts a young girl timidly descending a staircase.
Surrounding this panel are recessed decoration comprised of rope twist wire work, ball tipped triangular motifs and a scalloped edge.
The back of the locket is plain apart from the hallmark for Birmingham 1881.
This is a substantial piece of jewellery. With the depth of the locket measuring 8mm.
The interior is fitted with 2 perspex covered picture spaces with their original frames.
All fittings are sound, the hinge is in good mechanical order and the locket closes securely.
In excellent antique condition.
