A decorative Antique Sterling silver Vesta case hallmarked for Chester 1900.

Front and back are decorated with scrolls and floral themed engraving. The front has a vacant shield shaped cartouche suitable for personalising with a monogram if desired.

Originally used as a decorative and necessary cover and protective holder for the highly flammable friction wax tipped matches or vestas. Named Vestas after the Roman goddess of fire, home and hearth.

The hinged lid is sound and the base has its deep ridged striker.

A lovely piece for the silver collector but also an eye catching pendant for a heavy silver chain.

A few surface markings commensurate with age.

Overall the condition is very good.
