Antique Australian 9ct Rose Gold Bee Brooch Set with Opal Pearl and Garnet

An eye catching 9ct rose gold double bar brooch with a central bee comprised of a vibrant and luminous opal body, seed pearl set wings and a garnet head.

Insect jewellery has been perennially popular since the Egyptians marched into battle wearing scarab beetle brooches for protection.

This little chap has a much more benign symbolism as bees represent industriousness, wealth and good luck.

Enclosing the bee are two gold bands decorated with gold balls and horizontal lines spaced either side of the bee.

The top and bottom end of the parallel bars are alternatively finished with ridged circular balls with rounded tips.

Stamped 9ct with the wheat sheaf and flag marking used by the Australian Jewellers Aronson and Sons.

The company was founded in 1878 in Melbourne by David Rosenthal and was producing quality jewellery until 1927.

The condition of this piece is very good commensurate with age.

The hinge, pin and catch are sound and secure.

There is a minuscule : “nibble “to the  garnet visible through a magnifying eye glass.

This is not visible to the naked eye and in no way effects the presentation of this charming piece.
